Recycling Your Lead Products

Scrap metal recycling involves the recovery and processing of scrap metal from end-of-life products and structures. This scrap metal can be reintroduced as raw material in the production of new goods. Recycling your scrap metal is essential to helping the environment and your company because it reduces the need to refine for new materials.

 metal recycling

One of the best metals to recycle is lead, it can be recycled over and over again without losing its quality, as long as it is not mixed with certain impurities. Lead has one of the highest recycling rates in the world, its is the most recycled metal of all those commonly used, far greater than aluminium, copper or zinc. More than 50 percent of lead used in the production of new lead products around the world is sourced from recycled lead.

Lead is one of the most efficiently recycled material, actually today more lead is recycled than mined. This lessens the pressure on the earth’s natural resources, minimize energy usage and limits pollution due to mining practices. Unlike other materials lead can be recycled indefinitely without any reduction to quality. This makes it ideal for recycling over and over again without losing quality of the lead.

Some examples of lead products that can be recycled:

lead batteries

  • Lead Sheet: Is commonly used in the construction industry for roofing and for radiation shielding in the healthcare industry. Leftover scraps of lead-sheet, old building materials and expired products containing lead sheet are perfect for recycling.
  • Lead-Based Batteries: commonly used in vehicles by auto-body shops, dealerships and more. Lead-acid batteries are the world’s most recycled consumer products, they make of 85% of the lead usage today. Also when recycling lea-based batteries hardly any of the materials go to waste, all the materials can be reduced down and efficiently recycled.
  • Electronic Device: Many electronic devices contain lead especially in their circuit boards. We recycle electronic devices in our e-waste program and we encourage you to look into it if you are interested in recycling your electronic devices.
